NOW THIS IS A JUDGE! “Justice delayed is justice denied!”and HONORABLE Judge Anderson is a no BS, fast justice kinda judge! I came to this blog and read all of the reviews beforehand and was wondering how I always get stuck with the alleged notoriously most hostile judges. My state civil case got removed to a Federal Court and bam Judge Anderson was assigned- I didn’t sleep well the first night but as always I prepare my case and make a record to appeal. I asked the Pro Se office what the deal was with this judge and they basically said as a pro se - you will not have any problems with Judge Anderson, he just doesn’t like dilatory, vexatious , “working the file” legal maneuvering Rule 11 sanctioning type of lawyer games. If you are a Plaintiff Or Defendant with a strong , solid case and you immediately show him your case’s strengths and why you should prevail and your claims or defenses are meritorious- you will appreciate Judge Anderson’s style as he honors Rule 1 for “just speedy ...” Even as a Pro Se, My briefs were well argued with case law and I showed him admissible evidence and why my case can’t be dismissed and why it should be remanded. Before the hearing, my briefs were so strong, he sua sponte GRANTED my Remand to state court. My case is David v. Goliath and obviously I am David ( poor Pro Se) against a billion dollar global company who has the biggest and most expensive defense firm. I won my Remand to State Court (favorable to Plaintiffs) without any hearing. Actually , I wish I could’ve stayed in Federal Court with Judge Anderson bc I believe I would’ve been treated fairly as Pro Se. Ive litigated in other federal courts and the Pro Se bias exists. Judge Anderson provides justice in an expeditious manner. A civil Plaintiff with a meritorious case could only dream of being assigned Judge Anderson. Thank you , I love you Judge Anderson, I have never been treated fairly in Federal Court until I was blessed to be assigned to you!

We have tried two civil litigation cases in front of Judge Anderson since he was appointed and been before him on others. One was theft of trade secrets where we represented the plaintiff. The other was a complex insurance and environmental matter. If you're looking for someone who is predictable, go somewhere else. if you're looking for someone who will literally read every line of your pleadings (to your benefit or detriment), he's your judge. Whether consumer rights or management, he has few tendencies. He appreciates owning up to one's errors, if they are made, as would any former AUSA. Keep in mind that he was originally appointed to the bench at a relatively young age in the last year of George HW Bush's presidency, almost 30 years ago. The appointment languished, likely for political reasons (remember this was around the time of Clarence Thomas, Robert Bork and numerous other controversial SCOTUS appointments). Do not break his rules. You will be sanctioned even if the other side doesn't ask for them. I would say his temperament reminds us of a David Souter or Anthony Kennedy. His well reasoned, balanced opinions do too. From the standpoint of practitioners, keep in mind that Judge Anderson cleared the docket on Americans with Disabilities Act cases, something we only know through second hand information. Regardless, it's useful to know that he doesn't tolerate cute tricks or non disclosure of documents by plaintiff's or defense counsel. The disgruntled views are those on either side, civil or criminal, who were surprised because they found it difficult to predict the outcome. Talk with his former clerks. They will give you more insight than anyone. In the early years of his tenure on the bench, settlements were handled through a magistrate. But, be careful what you share. In a recent case well before trial, Judge Anderson gave litigants the option to exchange settlement offers in a bench trial which surprised both sides.

I spent an entire morning in Judge Anderson's courtroom yesterday at a sentencing hearing for my client and watched four sentencing hearings before mine. Despite his terrible reputation, I watched him depart below the guidelines on one case, agree with the defense that a guideline enhancement does not apply on another case, and split the difference on two others. On mine he gave the low-end of the guidline range. He also went below three years of supervised release a couple cases, including mine. So for as much grousing there is about Judge Anderson, on this day anyway, I've certainly seen much worse. But then as I was leaving, a couple civil litigants had their case called. That's when I heard the yelling from the bench...oh geez.

Rude, arrogant, biased, disdainful of all (government, defense, defendant) and for some reason, he actually thinks he's SMART!

Judge Anderson lacks compassion and punishes defendants for their lawyers righteous arguments. The judge lacks total impartiality when he constantly berates defense counsel’s cogent arguments. Unfortunately your client will lose out with the judge imposing a higher retaliatory sentence even if the government requests a more moderate punishment. Life time tenure be damned.

I watched this judge walk into a sentencing hearing as if it were a casual visit to the bathroom. There were close to 20 supporters in attendance for the defendant and for the first time I saw a prosecutor defending the defendant. She refused to make a recommendation for time. She also stated that this was not a normal case for the federal courts. The judge did not care. It was as if he did not read the sentencing memorandum. It was a complete disregard for human life. He gave the defendant three years even after the prosecutor used a case that received 1 where the case was much worse. It brings me great shame to have this person serving as a judge in my country it brings me even more shame that we allow him to continue to do the horrible things we read on his profile on this site. He is the proof of failure in our system and a complete disgrace to the federal bench.

Anderson should not be hearing a case involving the PCB/caulk issue at Malibu High school. The PCB's contained in the caulk was manufactured by Monsanto who Anderson has worked with in the past and still receives funds from. Isn't this a conflict of interests?

He is a former AUSA who clearly takes sides with the government. If your client is a criminal defendant, do not expect a fair trial in front of this judge. He's not even subtle about his rulings. On top of everything else, and perhaps his worst quality, is his lack of judicial temperament. In short, he's a punk and a bully.

Seems like a lot of you guys are just not cut out to be lawyers. The really smart people have no patience for idiots. He sounds fair from what I read. Smart too. No patience? That happens when 50% of the cases are frivolous or poorly argued. I wish I had gotten a different judge because my case has no merit. That wouldn't make him a bad judge for seeing through that and remanding it back to State though would it. I can not stand cry babies with my self analyzation skills.

This judge is an arrogant bully with no regard for his role as an impartial human element of justice. He is more interested in asserting power than administering effective justice. He harms both the public and those before him. He should be impeached for his blatant attempts to hinder justice, particularly with habeas corpus motions. He's a hall monitor.

I've been a litigator in state and federal courts for 37 years. Without question, Judge Anderson is the most offensive, laziest, most arrogant, insulting and imbalanced judge that I have ever had the misfortune to stand before. As other comments have suggested, if there is any chance of bailing out before this guy gets his fangs into you, seize the opportunity. Why has the CDCA attracted so many of these types? Judge Anderson deserves his ranking as one of the worst federal judges in the U.S.

This man is overrated in terms of his abilities, and he practically radiates arrogance, hostility, disrespect and anger for no particular reason. He is just as miserable to court staff as he is to attorneys and litigants. He is a disgrace to the bench.

In regard to medical marijuana: unfortunately, the federal courts do not recognize medical marijuana, unlike the state and county courts. Federal courts continue to see it as illegal. County probation accepts the medical marijuana prescription to the extent that, if there is a positive THC result, the individual would not be in violation. My opinion of Judge Percy Anderson is that he is by the book. There are some rulings where he could rule in favor, but if it's not written in stone, he will not rule. He heard a difficult case. In the beginning of the case, Judge Anderson made quick, swift rulings. He yelled at my attorneys on a few occasions. The bottom line is that he gets irritated by the circus antics of attorneys. My further observation of Judge Anderson is that you must know your stuff (cite case law, file correct paperwork, etc). Most of these attorney complaints are from those who are used to judges allowing them to blah blah blah -- and because Judge Anderson doesn't, it's a problem. Be straight and to the point. I sat and heard him on other cases, and as long as you know your stuff and treat him with respect, then you will have no issues with him. In other words, step your game up. If time frames are expedited, then follow it. It's work. He's not in every courtroom. Lastly, I've witnessed the expedited hearings, and seen the attorneys roll their eyes. But I got the opportunity to witness a fair side of him. He was very patient with the plaintiff with a speech impediment, and allowed him considerable time to testify that he understood the case.

I have appeared before hundreds of judges. Judge Anderson is the creepiest, dumbest, most biased, ignorant, egomaniacal and pompous judge I have ever been before. He truly is a disgrace to the federal bench. The only contribution that he could make to improve the federal judiciary would be to retire. The worst judge, bar none.

I have never posted about a judge before. After my experience with Judge Anderson, I found this site just because I wanted people to know about this wreck of a judge. Lo and behold . . . I found a group of attorneys with the same experience. I have been a civil litigator for 20 years. I have been in front of hundreds of judges. I thought Judge Manny Real was the worst federal judge ever . . . maybe not. Judge Anderson is a piece of work. He is openly contemptuous and rude. He fires off crazy OSC orders just to pressure parties. He 'spins' the facts to suit his purposes. He and Kim Jong-un should party together.
