Judge Brown is a learned gentleman with a great judicial demeanor and temperament. He knows the discovery rules inside out and his rulings are fair. Unfortunately he is overburdened. He therefore makes it difficult to get discovery rulings and to a great degree leaves the case to the litigants. A determined discovery obstructionist can get away with a lot before Judge Brown.

Simply stated the best Judge in the building bar none! Bright eager and fair! Should be on the District soon, oh I forgot Trump is the President! Too bad because Schumer picked a winner here!

Excellent at settlement negotiations and outlining strengths and weaknesses of different sides; I knew him as an AUSA on a Qui Tam and now as a Magistrate Judge. Why in the world has he not been affirmed for the Federal Judgeship? Moving him up to the Judgeship would help the civil rights bar have a Judge with the trust of the plaintiffs and an extensive government background.

I just completed a case where I was the defendant in a case. I was thoroughly impressed with the Judge's patience, diligence and competence in handling the settlement of the case. His calm and welcoming demeanor in his courtroom made a difficult situation much easier.

I recently had a tort case before Magistrate Brown. After two years of motion practice, we arrived at a settlement conference. The Magistrate was able to shepherd a reasonable settlement between the parties that day [I represented the plaintiff] by shuttling back and forth between the courtroom [we stayed there] and the conference room where defense counsel and his client were. Not just the fact that we settled the case, but it was really a pleasure to spend time chatting with him. He is a fine jurist, and a true gentleman.

I have been trying cases for 25 years. Magistrate Judge Gary Brown is an excellent judge. It was my best trial experience in 25 years. He is brilliant, considerate, flexible, accommodating and willing to listen.

Judge Brown is highly educated in most matters of the law, very thoughtful, and is a pleasure to appear before. He gets very involved in cases from the onset, and is always eager to jump into challenging litigation issues. He presides over his cases with great fairness and is a welcome addition to the EDNY bench. Unfortunately, I have had unpleasant dealings with a member of his staff which left me with a sour taste. I made a general telephone inquiry to chambers, and the gentleman I spoke with was rude, quoted the individual rules inaccurately, and was generally demeaning in his manner and tone. In all my years of practicing law, I have never experienced this lack of professionalism when dealing with chambers before.

I've been favorably impressed with Magistrate Brown. He's highly intelligent, hardworking, practical, evenhanded and humble/approachable. He has good common sense with respect to what's important in litigation and takes an active approach to settlement. We could use more judges like him.

I have had two matters before Judge Brown. In each case Judge Brown was fair and effective. I agree with the other positive reviews of Judge Brown and am at a loss to understand the exremely negative review posted by one of our colleagues.

I have litigated in front of 100s of judges across the country over a long career, Magistrate Brown is by far the worst. He doesn't apply the law to facts, is vitriloic, and should resign so we can restore sanity to the bench.

Magistrate Judge Gary R. Brown is one of the best judges that I’ve encountered since becoming a lawyer 15 years ago. Unlike most judges, he treats the attorneys with respect and is just super nice guy. His temperament, in tandem with his intelligence, make it a pleasure to have a case before him. If more judges were like him, the practice of law would be better.

Magistrate Brown is a most welcome addition to the Federal Bench in the Eastern District. I had a Civil Rights/ADA/Employment Discrimination case before him shortly after his ascension to the bench. At the initial conference, he offered to mediate the case for the parties. At the mediation, he was courteous, unhurried, fair and completely willing to listen and offer thoughts without being overbearing. After several hours he brought the matter to settlement. Above all, Judge Brown is courteous to the litigants and their attorneys and made sure to provide the necessary accommodations for disabled participants. He invites even the litigants to speak with him during mediation, (with counsel's consent) and my client was most impressed that she was able to 'talk to the Judge.' This is a Magistrate Judge with a future.
