Despite the other reviews, Judge Hacker is a fair, even-handed judge. He has a great courtroom demeanor. He truly loves the give-and-take of oral argument. He's not some egomanian sitting on the bench, rather, he likes to have truly good discussions about issues. Very, very likeable judge, very intelligent, and just a good person. Wish all judges were like him. However, it does appear that he's relying on the intellectualism of his new D.C. law clerk for the almost all of of recent civil and some criminal opinions. You can tell there is huge difference in the style of his civil and some criminal opinions between 2009 and now, 2016-17.

unbelievable that he is up for reappointment as a magistrate. recommend they drug test him should he be reappointed. might be slightly intoxicated after lunch.

Imperious dunce. Thinks he's the smartest person in the room and treats everyone else like crap. Has no compassion for the people appearing before him. He just wants to finish quickly so he can leave early for the day.

This Judge(f one can really call him that is the antrthiesis of all of the traits a good judge should have. He has no independence of thought;being the District Judge's marionette marching cases towards a predetermined scheule with no flexibility whatsoever for the nuances of each civil case before him. When there are critical pending pretrial motions before him in civil cases he is slow on the draw-both intellectualy and temporally. It goes without saying that his knowledge of Fereral Civil Procedure is nonexistant-nil to be more precise.His grasp ove the local rules for the Southern district of Texas that govern the disposition of Motions simply does not exist. This judge's temprament on the bench is abonimable. He is rude, disrespectful to counsel, egotistical based upon his judicial station in life, oftentimes making comments on his briliance when it is completely the opposite. Disagree with him and you face the scimitar of sanctions,which he uses to cover up his complete incompetence on the law,even whenit is handed to hil on a silver platter and spoon fed. Expect nothing from this miserable excuse for a judge, who follows the Samuel B Kent school of judicial temprament. Public perception of the Federal Judiciary is at an all time low. This judge(if you want to call him that, is a personification of why. I pity the civil litigant who casts his or her fate to the whims and caprices this excuse for a Magistrate judge. A civil litigant's counsel should have a motion to recuse under Section 455(a) handy as it will be needed. Federal judges come and federal Judges go-this one should go-and quickly. Laredo division will have its releif when this Judge follows Judge Alvarez to the Rio Grande Valley. He is an insult to the federal bench and the legal profession and is a criminal prosecutor in black robes having failed to learn the difference between an advocate on criminal cases and a judge in civil cases. Beware this follower of the Sam Kent school of judge.

Judge Hacker doesn't understand that keeping civil cases on a tight leash works to the detriment of both parties. If parties need time to conduct discovery or have rulings on dispositive motions, there is no reason to put them on a fast track to trial.
