Does not like to try civil cases and it shows. She takes it out on counsel representing the party who, in her mind, refused to settle. Takes it to the point of interrupting counsel's argument and admonishing counsel in front of jury throughout the trial.

She is a tyrant and a bully; likes to sanction lawyers, especially those who represent plaintiffs. Never rules promptly, always waits until the last minute. Will threaten lawyers openly to force settlements and avoid trying civil cases. Scolds and humiliates lawyers in front of the jury. Maybe she was once a good judge, but now she just seems bitter, petty and vindictive.

She used to be a very different sort of judge, one who allowed defense attorney's to make their record and present their defenses in a fair manner. At sentencing, she always had a reputation of being tough on defendants. She is now intemperate at trial towards defense attorneys, it takes forever to get a case tried before her, no regular hours are kept, she seems to not enjoy her work, runs things as if she were on a part-time job, delegates far too much on career law clerks who seem to think (with good reason!) they are the judge, could use a makeover in appearance (i.e., starting with brushing her hair). On CJA Vouchers, she has no respect for reviewing them in a timely manner, and can get extremely petty when approving claimed hours.

Out-of-state counsel would not be so shocked if they regularly practice before George Lindberg of the Northern District of Illinois. He routinely has his law clerks whisper in his ear during the most routine of status hearings, often triggering a sudden reversal of his prior ruling, directive, etc. Oliver Wendell Holmes he is not.

Very courteous and even-tempered. But she is often not there and delegates too much. Litigants and counsel, particularly out-of-state counsel, are often shocked to have to present their issues to a law clerk in the evening after traveling to Puerto Rico and preparing for a hearing before a U.S. District Judge.

I always wonder why she remains on the job. She sure seems unhappy at it. Far too much delegation to one career law clerk who seems to think she is the judge. She seems to be with her thoughts in some other matters and in her Court it is really night court.

She is a nice lady, but does not come to work. When she does it does not appear she is happy. She could use a good hairdresser.
