He is arrogant and an extremely bad judge. I won the first civil jury trial (civil rights for a woman employee) in his court right after he was appointed. He granted a new trial without any justification, attacked me repeatedly in front of the second jury, and they came back with a defense verdict which was as rapid as his rocket docket. He also tried to have me disbarred from the central district court only because I won a verdict for a woman employee! Luckily the disciplinary committee backed off. I will drop the case if I ever get stuck with him again. He caused me great trauma and my client never got over the fact he robbed her of her jury verdict against her employer. The tragedy is that there is no accountability for judges. other than judges providing themselves a professional courtesy there is no reason for them having absolute immunity. Police officers have qualified immunity. So should judges. In addition, disqualification of judges has to get easier. If they are rude and insulting, while attorneys claim they have to take it, such behavior takes its toll on one's emotional and mental equilibrium. There should be lawsuits called hostile court environment lawsuits. The courtroom is the work environment for litigation attorneys. They are entitled as any worker is to respect and courtesy. They often do not receive it from imperious personalities on the bench.
