Judge Barbier is very plaintiff-oriented and considered by the bar to be a liberal judge. In recent years, he has tended toward bullying of both lawyers and their clients in order to obtain the results he wants, which is usually a large settlement in favor of a plaintiff. Although he is intelligent, his opinions and rulings are results-oriented, and do not always follow the law. He is a master of manipulation. Many in the defense bar believe they cannot get a 'fair shake' in his courtroom.
