I have to disagree with commentor #18154. Even with all the mitigation in the world, a beneficial probation reccomendation, and 'proper' arguments being made, Judge Wright has made up his mind before your sentencing memorandum is even filed. I doubt he even spends more than 5minutes looking over sentencing position papers for most defendants. Clients with drug conspiracy cases will get hit the hardest as Judge Wright feels its his civic duty to be extremely harsh on drug defendants and makes it known that all the drug problems of individuals in society are defendants fault from their instant offense. I'm not aware of individuals making racist comments to the judge, but I will say that he shows EXTREME beneficial prejudice to attorneys who are African-American. Similarly situated co-defendants with African American attorneys will get a better outcome on the same criminal indictment. I've seen it numerous times. Do yourself a favor an take note of what when deciding who will represent you, it may be the only chance you have at getting a fair day in court.
