I've practiced before Judge Hillman for many years. He is by a wide margin the laziest magistrate judge on the Central District Bench, and this extreme laziness impairs and infects everything he does. He will do anything to avoid both hearing and deciding matters properly put before him. He truly is a bench warmer, has no intellectual curiosity or interest in law, and punches his time clock to get his salary. Thus, he is just a lousy judicial officer. He won't do his job and nobody wants to make him do it. He is timid, frail, and moribund. Hopefully, he soon will retire and will be replaced by at least a warm body.
