THE ROBING ROOM
where judges are judged

This judge handles a docket that is ridiculous in its quantity of criminal cases. Consequently, she has very little inclination to grant extensions of time in civil cases, even when agreed upon by the parties. This contributes to her negative ratings here, as civil lawyers are used to having most judges unquestioningly approve those requests. Her work ethic is impressive, often holding two trials simultaneously, from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm, and a second trial beginning at 3 pm and lasting until around 8 or 9 pm. While the criminal defense bar may have problems with her, she is fairly even-handed in civil cases. I know as many defense lawyers who complain about her not granting a summary judgment motion as I do plaintiff's lawyers who complain when she does. She strictly enforces time limits in hearings and trials, and as long as lawyers adhere to those and are prepared, they usually get along with her.
