Appeared before him at least 8 times. Generally well-prepared, but seemingly has his mind made up by oral argument. Often gruff with counsel, especially when you don't have a direct answer to a direct question. Although no-nonsense, has a sense of humor and has responded (at least with me) to a more casual approach. Know your key case names and record citations. Although knowing what they are, he has asked me for either a case or record cite just to test me. If the issue is interesting, has let oral argument go substantially longer than scheduled. Doesn't mind if you disagree with him, as long as you can cogently explain it, and seems willing to listen as long as you are sincere and not just 'impassioned.' No BS welcomed.
