Contrary to the opinions voiced in a recent critique, Judge Gleeson is exceedingly bright, innovative, independent and courageous. This is the guy who threw out a conviction on grounds of prosecutorial misconduct, suggesting that the AUSA had suborned perjury, and who held that the standard charge on the credibility of a defendant who testifies was unconstitutional because it instructed the jury to scrutinize his testimony with greater care than that of any other witness. He was a great prosecutor and is a great judge.
