No. That was populism and unmistakably got him elevated to the 2nd Circuit when Judge Chatigny's nomination floundered. 150 years, no matter the amount of damage, for a non-violent offense underscores American exceptionalism when it comes to punishment. As Judge Chin once claimed in a NYT interview he just imposes sentencing as if he is rolling the dice. He is not a courageous judge and since he is at the top of his career now, reaching the Supremes is unlikely, he will hopefully realize that the criminal justice system is entirely broken and not pick and choose who he wishes to burn.
