Genuinely nice person off the bench, but pro-government on the bench. In his earlier days on the bench, he would sometimes (seemingly deliberately) make lawyers look bad by asking them questions about some technical matter and waiting until they looked it up, while implying that they should know the answer off the top of their heads. Has mellowed in that regard. His tardiness is a fairly consistent issue (not that there is anything to be done about it).
