I couldn't disagree more. Judge Campbell is by far one of the hardest working judges I have ever encountered. Based on my experiences, she is always well prepared for hearings, having carefully considered the briefs well in advance of the hearing and obviously having conducted her own research. She is very bright and grasps concepts quickly. She also demands that attorneys are precise, crossing their t's and dotting their i's, if you will. Moreover, she has a lovely disposition. To the extent that the other attorney says that Judge Campbell is 'not terribly sharp,' it might be that this attorney made poor arguments or didn't make the arguments clearly. If nuances are lost on a judge, more often than not, it is because the attorney has failed to actually make those nuances clear. There's only so much that even the brightest judge can do to make up for poor briefing, poor analysis, and poor argument. Judge Campbell is a gem, especially in the criminal context.
