Judge Baer gets a bad rap for his tendency to shoot from the lip when silence (or at least moderation) would serve all concerned better. But he is extremely smart, very experienced and his decisions reflect a scholarship level well above that of all but a few of his colleagues. An acquired taste to be sure, but once you get used to his rhythm, he's a superior jurist.
