There is no better judge in the nation than Judge Takasugi. He holds the government to its burden and chooses to see the good in people rather than the bad. He is a master of reading defendants and knowing when they deserve a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) chance.

This wonderful human being is an avatar of justice. If every judge were like him, no one would say 'Don't give me law, I want justice.' They would say, 'I want Judge Takasugi.'

Fair, temperate, intelligent, and compassionate. This judge is a rare public servant, who is known often to respond to people who first meet him and don't know his job and who ask him what he does for a living that he works for the government.

Judge Takasugi is the best judge in the Central District. I tried a criminal case before him that dragged out over six months, which I lost. He was uniformly kind and fair. During one long day, the Assistant U.S. Attorney and I were pissed off and chipping at each other. He called us to the bench, and said, 'Now, I know you guys like each other, so shake hands, and start over.' In the end, he substantially reduce my client's sentence with an ill health departure.

The finest judge in the nation. Judge Takasugi will be fair if it breaks his heart (and sometimes it does.). He is intelligent, industrioius, polite to all, and a judge's judge. Every judge should have to sit in his courtroom to learn how to be a judge or a better judge. A marvelous human being.
