I appeared in front of Paul Brown long ago when He had entered a TRO to halt the closing of a sale out of a Bankruptcy Court which had been approved by the Bankruptcy Court and never appealed. The TRO was requested by a former law clerk of Judge Brown & granted without any notice or a hearing. My client, the Purchaser, was specifically named in the TRO as an enjoined party, so I attended the hearing on the Preliminary Injunction. Not ten minutes into the hearing, as I attempted to cross examine the Movant's witness, Judge Brown told me to sit down and shut up - He claimed he had only enjoined the Trustee in Bankruptcy, and my client did not have standing. When I attempted to show him the signed TRO Order, which very explicitly named my client as an enjoined party, he got angry, told me to shut up, sit down, He didn't want to hear another word. At the end of the day, the Preliminary Injunction was denied, so no harm done, but I really cannot have much faith in that Judge.

If you have a criminal defendant in his court, tell your client to bring his toothbrush. Harsh, small-minded, narrowly-cabined on virtually all defense issues that may assist in a fair trial. Will 'educate' the jury with his opinion if you let him get away with it.
