This judge did a good job settling one of my rare civil cases. He was courteous, smart and thoughtful. I liked him a lot, and I felt he was always looking for a way to get to the right result. Too bad he is just a magistrate judge.

Excellent judge. Smart, personable, has managed to entirely avoid the plague of black-robitis. He treated the parties I represented with respect and showed care for them as human beings. Played an effective role in settlement. He is truly a gem of a judge.

Fantastic. Smart. Funny. Empathetic. Willing to work on issues to help sides reach agreement. Wish he was a full judge. We are lucky to have him.

Kind and compassionate as well as brilliant. I've never been disappointed with the fairness and integrity of this judge. It says a lot that he is one of the best, if not the best, in a very talented pool of magistrate judges and Article III judges in this district. I won't be surprised to see him sit on the Second Circuit when the political climate changes. Given his relative youth, he has lots of time. It'll be great to see it happen.

I agree completely with the rating and email dated 11/18/2006 and cannot say it better. Lawyers and parties in the District of Connecticut would be lucky to have Judge Garfinkel as an Art. III judge.

I don't know anyone in the federal bar who doesn't like and have great esteem for Judge Garfinkel. This judge devotes an extraordinary amount of time, often at the expense of getting home for dinner, to helping lawyers settle their cases. Clients like him. He's warm, caring and sensitive. Great guy - would make a fine Article III judge if only brains and political neutrality were the governing standard for the politicians who pick em.
