Dislikes all civil plaintiffs, criminal defendants, and their counsel equally. Unless you are a minority. Then, he dislikes you a little more. Prosecutors, civil defendants, and their attorneys can do no wrong in his eyes.

Has no real feel for burden of proof or evidentiary issues in a civil case. It is quite evident that before taking the bench he had very little, or almost no, litigation experience.

It was a pleasure trying a criminal case in front of Judge Brann. He is accommodating to the lawyers and a great listener. He is genuinely interested in the substance of the case and recognizes and appreciates good legal craftsmanship. He is eager to make out of town attorneys feel at home and gives great restaurant recommendations -- be prepared though, his favorite place seems to have an unwritten dress code that prefers hipster clothing, long fuzzy beards and lots of tattoos -- the food is great. Finally, the judge has a habit of nodding when you are making legal arguments to him -- I don't think this is conscious -- he is listening intently. BE CAREFUL NOT TO CONCLUDE THAT THIS MEANS HE AGREES WITH YOU.

Very pro-corporate bias. Shallow reasoning in his written opinions.

Legal analysis is poor and appears outcome driven toward corporate defendants. Poor judicial temperament. If he is your draw as a plaintiff's civil rights attorney promptly inform your client about the appeal process.
