Have to disagree with the majority of comments on here. By far the worst magistrate I have appeared before in either the Eastern or Southern District. Clearly biased. Ignored relevant case law to get the result that he wanted.

Truly one of the best magistrates. Smart, hard working and fair. Understands complex issues. Not a 'split-the-baby' type; unafraid to make a decision.

My experience has been diametrically opposed to the other reviews posted. This Magistrate has shown a total lack of scholarship and understanding of the issues, which he appears to decide from 'the hip' and as a result of bias. His memory of past matters before him relevant to new issues has been appalling poor. Granted, this is with respect to 'procedural' issues (which he may deem of less significance, but are not unimportant in the least), not substantive issues, which I hope he never gets to address. His 'temperament' from his rulings has been reflective of his bias. Hopefully, the other reviewers have captured the Magistrate that should be sitting. Unfortunately, I have not.

Magistrate-Judge Dolinger is a fine judge, being courteous, even-handed and fair. He listens to arguments and reads submissions carefully and is open to changing his mind on cases.

A fine magistrate-judge. Cordial, scholarly, even-tempered and even-handed. Not egotistical.

Fair, efficient, extremely well-organized. Meticulous researcher (and he knows key appellate cases on a wide range of issues by heart) and writer. If you work with him you'd feel that you are training with a master.

An excellent Judge. Fair, and comfortable in his role. Exhibits little tolerance for delay in discovery, and is execellent in facilitating settlement without being overbearing. Listens to both sides, with a genuine concern. A real asset to the profession, a gentleman.

The judge comes to court very fully prepared and asks questions designed to probe the weakness or strength of the case. In discovery conferences, he's very hard on delay and obfuscating tactics. He once suggested to opposing counsel that he visit the law library to better understand his discovery obligations. Overall, he was fair and level-headed (i.e., not a yeller).
