I was a criminal defendant that went to trial with him as the judge. Although there is no such thing as fairness for a criminal defendant in the federal system on account of interest/politics/and other facts not going to mention here, this judge at least came close. During my sentencing, early 2003, I stated to him at my closing: Good luck to you Judge on being an Appellate Judge.

It is not particularly surprising that the court staff would be bending over backwards to be in the 'he is a swell guy' column since their jobs may be at stake. That said if he is the most brilliant mind that SDFL has to offer then the state of justice in that district is very sad indeed. Most of lawyers who still practice in front of him would be too gutless to tell the truth and the sycophants will probably mention to the judge as they meet at some 'legal' convention in the Bahamas, 'Eh, judge, I gave you thumbs up on some web site.' hoping to carry some favor. This judge does not like to work, he cannot grasp complex issues. His clerks cannot be blamed for nothing getting done for years because it is the judge that tells the clerks what to do, not the other way around. SDFL is probably the only jurisdiction in the U.S. which has a 90 days expiring local rule to make judges actually work instead of playing golf.

He is the smartest judge in the district and unbelievably patient with litigants. It sounds like the Eleventh Circuit is calling, which is wonderful for him, but will be a huge loss for trial lawyers in Miami.

I have worked with several federal judges in my 28-year career and he is by far the best judge I ever worked for. Totally well rounded individual who deserves to be on the Circuit Court, if not the Supreme Court. He is just brilliant in the law.

Complete inability to handle technology. Does not read papers but rather likes to rule from the hip when swayed emotionally at a hearing by a fast talking lawyer (loves hearings.) Vindictive, and will do anything to make his rulings stick even when overturned by his betters.

I may not have got the rulings I wanted, but it was very clear that this judge read all the papers, clearly understood the issues in dispute, and issued pragmatic, fair and well reasoned decisions. He was also very courteous and respectful to all counsel during oral argument. I can't understand the comments from #11980, they're completely at odds with my experience and all other posts for this judge.

This is a truly outstanding judge. His BS meter is right on and his temperment is terrific. Orders are slow but that is weighed out with his outstanding attirbutes.

Very bright but also very slow in ruling. Can wait for years on a decision on a motion. Needs more industrious clerks.

Judge Jordan presided over my suit against a city and several of its officers. He is the perfect example of everything positive about the legal system. Never once did he stray from his duty of following the law as it was meant to be without any bias or predjudice. Everyone within the legal profession would greatly benefit from ever meeting or hearing him in court.

If you have ever wondered who will be included in the examples of great trial judges when today's young lawyers retire and write their memoirs, look no further than Judge Jordan. He is brilliant (a former clerk to Justice O'Connor) and effortlessly commands the respect of everyone in his courtroom.
