Stay clear of this judge if your client is a person of color. He is extremely racially inclined and will try to bend the rules to have his way. Criminal or Civil this judge is a nightmare for any person who is black or if your attorney is non-white.

Judge Russell is very lazy. He will dismiss cases after discovery and right up until trial just because he doesn't want to spend his time at trial. Yes, this is at the expense of citizens who have a right to his or her day in court. Oh yeah, Judge Russell's opinions do not even make sense. The grammar is horrible!!!

If you make it to trial, you will be surprised by how sharp Judge Russell is. This is due to the fact that he has a relatively weak stable of clerks. Written opinions are not impressive in terms of writing, scholarship or reasoning. However, if you get the issue before Judge Russell, himself, you will find that he quickly understands the issues and more readily appreciates fine distinctions in law and fact.

A burned out judge. He doesn't want to really work at it. Clerks aren't much better. It's sad because once he was once of the best but now is just showing up.
