Smartest judge on this bench. Careful and thorough on the law. Does not play around or have time for your games— those who bloviate will not enjoy her.

Completely biased. Inappropriately influenced settlement of civil suit. Threatened party with contempt if they didn't settle case for the amount she considered 'right'.

Judge Nanette Laughrey's recent execution stay for Joseph Franklin was just pathetic. The 8th Circuit summarily dismissed her stay in record time. She can't even cite legal arguments for issuing a stay. The Supreme Court has spoken on the death penalty and the use of drugs. The bar for an appeal is very high, as the court has to be certain that the State did not follow Supreme Court precedent. 11th-hour claims are not sufficient to dissolve 20 years of state and federal court rulings. These judges issued emotional decisions, not factual ones. From the 8th Circuit: The District Court entered the stay of execution without referring to any legal standard. The District Court did not apply the standard Congress enacted that requires federal courts to give deference to state court decisions. Reversed. Joseph Franklin was executed hours later.

As another commentor said, she kept her law professor demeanor. Doesn't seem to like the lawyers who appear in front of her.

Judge Laughery did not recuse herself in a civil litigation against Columbia College although she is a close family friend of the President, Gerald Brouder. She spoke at CC graduation and they attend same church. Their children grew up together and Brouder knew her as an administrator at UMC where she taught.

My experience with Judge Laughrey is in a motion practice setting. Her decisions are fair and well reasoned. Also she is prompt and responsive. It is all good.

Definitely a pro-plaintiff judge. The only judge who was blatant in her attempt to influence a jury during trial.

Tries her best, but shows no practical appreciation of the criminal process which occurs outside the courtroom. Views cooperators as rats who are not entitled to much of a break, even when they put themselves in serious physical jeopardy. Has little toleration for violent offenders at sentencing.

You never know what you're going to get. Her temperament is a real problem, as she's kept her 'professor mentality' from her days as a law school professor.
