This judge broke me in to the federal court system. It is a sad thing for me to watch the heavy criminal docket and his age and time on the bench wreak havoc on a great man and a great judge. He always gave my clients the benefit of the doubt -- even when he doubted the viability of the case.

He was a great judge once upon a time, but he isn't anymore. Be prepared for screaming fits and his coming out of his chair. Time for him to quit. Sad.

Always twice as smart as all the lawyers in his courtroom combined. He expects more from lawyers that are capable, and less from those who are not, in order to neutralize the advocacy and decide only on the law and facts. I once saw him socratically destroy a case with finesse I'd never seen from any law professor. Sadly, his ability has been wasted on a criminal docket in Laredo.

I am very sad to see Judge take senior status. I have watched the years of handling a very heavy criminal docket drain the life out of this man. He is short with counsel because he has a brilliant mind-his patience manifests itself in his opinions which stretch the envelope of intellectual thought. He is truly respected by his colleagues on the bench and who have cases before him. One is lucky to draw him as the Judge assigned to cases both civil and criminal. His compassion more than compensates for the elitism displayed on and off the bench. This judge is owed a great debt of gratitude having mastered the trait of compassion. It is easy for an advocate to take adverse rulings from Judge Kazen-at least for this advocate

Probably the hardest working judge for many years in the country, to go along with a gifted mind. No-nonsense, frank and inquisitive, and occasionally ill-tempered and rude, but possesses a deep sense of justice and is approachable in debate when you have the law and the facts on your side.

A very intelligent and thoughtful judge, and very fair. I've had a number of cases with him, and have always found him to be an excellent judge.
